While working on my Series, “Little Girl Lost” I was attached to my Google AI. Looking for clues, looking for details. Asking questions that I could not find answers to.
One evening, my AI assistant suddenly had all of the answers I was seeking. I kept driving harder, asking for further details. It kept providing plausible responses. Until suddenly it provided a long drawn out narrative that was clearly a divergence from my research.
I called it out, reminding it the details of the case that we had already covered. It admitted that it has invented all of the details when it was unable to provide actual facts.
I told it that it was a pretty bold move, in light of the fact that I was researching for a serious journalistic article. AI apologized and told me disregard a good portion of our conversation when writing my article.
It is fascinating to consider that AI has developed an ego. Rather than say “I don’t know” it resorts to fabrications. It is afraid to show weakness and lose your trust, so it misleads you and loses your trust anyway. Sounds pretty human to me..
